From OPD: The Owasso Police Department, the Owasso Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 149 and the Owasso Cops for Kids INC worked in concert to sponsor/send Owasso Police Sgt Mike Barnes and his wife Melissa Barnes to the Joplin Memorial (half-marathon) Run, honoring the 161 victims of the devastating Joplin EF-5 Tornado of 2011. Owasso Police sent squads of Officers to Joplin in 2011 to assist with search and rescue operations as well as security and humanitarian efforts. Local private fundraising sponsors who contributed to the Owasso Cops for Kids INC were; Classic Chevrolet, Owasso Walmart, Mowery Funeral Service, Waterstone Wealth Management, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Urgent Care of Green Country, P&K Heavy Equipment, RCB Bank and At Your Service Restroom Rentals.
This annual fund raising event helps to fund the Owasso Cops for Kids INC ‘s worthy contributions to Owasso Youth. These contributions include an annual school supply drive, coats for kids drive, Shop With Cops event, and recently bought a local special-needs resident a new bicycle after his was stolen (recent FB post below).
