Spread the love

Any week day it’s a pleasure to sit with members of the ‘Greatest Generation’ when they eat lunch together at 11:00 AM at the Owasso Community Center. The groups age spans from sixty to ninety years old and when volunteers are included in the dialogue at least nine decades of life experience becomes a part of lunch time conversations which makes time together very entertaining and fun!

A nutritional meal is provided through the Older Americans Act and is available to seniors over the age of 60 at the Owasso Community Center. There’s no need to eat alone when you can participate any weekday! Donations are encouraged, however they are not mandatory.

If you want to eat call 918-272-3903 and Community Center staff and volunteers will ensure a reservation is made for you for the next day’s meal. If you are a senior and need transportation to and from the Center, the Center will also work with you to schedule your rides.

April makes a difference in the program and comments “I was so glad to learn about the lunches so that I could become involved at the Community Center!” Additional volunteers are always welcome to come and serve the prepared lunch on specific days of the week (Monday – Friday, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM.) as well as clean the kitchen and dining area afterwards. Volunteer food handler permits are easy to obtain and all volunteers are encouraged to get one! Interested? Please call the Community Center’s Program Coordinator, Nicole Wilson at 918-272-3903 to get involved.
