Donald Hayes Smith was born September 21, 1931, in Stillwater, Minnesota, to Conrad William Smith and Pearl Hayes Smith. He died Friday, June 13, 2025, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, at the age of 93 years. Don completed his secondary education in Stillwater, Minnesota, and was a graduate of Stillwater High School. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Air Force. After 20 years of service with the Air Force, he worked with the Stillwater School District.
Don was married March 28, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Anna Marie Holcomb. He spent most of his professional career in aircraft maintenance and was a civil engineer. Don was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Owasso. Having grown up as a young man working on the family farm, Don carried an extraordinarily strong work ethic, even in his free time. He enjoyed planting and working in his flower garden. He was also a talented woodworker and enjoyed working on various projects. He was an all-around handyman and could fix most anything. Don enjoyed socializing with his friends, but his greatest love was his family. He especially enjoyed his grandkids who affectionately knew him as “Grandpa” and “Great Papa”.

Daughter; Dawn Carpenter and husband Mac, of Owasso, Oklahoma
Grandchildren; Amber Clark and husband Brett, of Bixby, Oklahoma
Amanda Edwards and husband Pete, of Jenks, Oklahoma
Great grandchildren; Berlynn Clark, Bentley Clark, Chase Clark, and Jaxson Edwards
Sister; Corrine Stuart and husband Ed, of Stillwater, Minnesota
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Anna Smith, brother, George Smith, and daughter, Deniece Smith.
Funeral service is being planned to be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Owasso, with the date to be announced in the near future. Final resting place with be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Don’s memory to the Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, Minnesota, 55905, www.mayoclinic.org, or The Journey Home, 900 Washington Boulevard, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74006, or www.thejourneyhomeok.org. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
