Question:

I have high blood pressure.  Is it safe to take blood pressure pills during pregnancy?

Answer:

It is absolutely okay to take high blood pressure medication while you are pregnant.  It is very important that your blood pressure be well controlled prior to and during your pregnancy.  However, there are certain blood pressure medications that are not safe for pregnant women and also certain preferred medications.  As with any chronic health condition, you should visit with your OB/Gyn prior to conception so that he/she can review your medications and, if necessary, switch them to something that is safe for you during pregnancy.
