Barbara Jo  BarnesBarbara Jo Barnes was born October 22, 1946 in Mayfield, Kansas to Albert Otis Tarr and Mildred Emma (Goodrum) Tarr. She passed from this life on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in Collinsville, Oklahoma, at the age of 73. Barbara was raised in Mayfield,, Kansas and graduated with the Wellington High School Class of 1964. She then went on to earn a Bachelor’s in History from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and then earned her Master’s in Library and Information Science at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. She was married on August 23, 1968 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to James Luther Barnes. Barbara spent most of her working life as a Librarian with the Tulsa County Library, working with the Owasso and Collinsville branch for almost 30 years. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Owasso since 1981, where she founded the Kids for Christ youth group and was active in United Methodist Women. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed attending various book clubs.

Derek Barnes and wife Rocio, of Owasso

Kyle Barnes, of Collinsville
6 Great Grandchildren;
Keylan, Carter, Kaizlee, Elise, Kyson, and Jonah
Brother;
Harlan Tarr and wife Dayna, of Aurora, Illinois
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mildred, husband, James, and brother, Jerry.

 

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2020 at First united Methodist Church in Owasso with Pastor Sarah Thornhill officiating. Final Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Owasso. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be in Barbara’s memory to First United Methodist Church Owasso – United Methodist Women, 13800 East 106th Street North, Owasso, Oklahoma 75055 or Owasso Public Library, 103 West Broadway Street, Owasso, Oklahoma 74055.
