B L GilliamBetty Lue Gilliam was born January 13, 1935, in Sheridan, Missouri, to James Carl “J.C.” Steinman and Ines P. (Downing) Steinman. She passed from this life Monday, March 12, 2018 in Bristow, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years. Betty was raised and educated in Missouri and completed the 8th grade in Parnell, Missouri. She spent most of her working life as a sales clerk for various businesses. Betty and her husband, Earnest H. Shoate Jr., operated DX Filling Station at German Corner in Owasso for over 10 years. After Earnest passed in March of 1978, Betty began working for Bud’s Mini Mart in Collinsville. After her many years as a sales Clerk, Betty retired and began working part time with the Before and After School Program for Sperry Public Schools in Sperry, Oklahoma. She attended Collinsville Free Will Baptist Church in Collinsville since 1978, until her health no longer allowed her to attend. In her spare time Betty enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards, watching racing and OU football, but most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Ines, husband, Earnest, 2 sisters, Carolyn and Joyce, 1 brother, Jim, and 2 daughters, Janie and Susan.
 
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Mowery Funeral Service. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Reverend Hermon Wood officiating. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
