Billy Leon SweetBilly Leon Sweet, 89, of Talala, Oklahoma, entered into heaven Friday, February 4, 2022, surrounded by the love and care of his family.
Bill was born August 16, 1932, in Talala, Oklahoma, to Orlando and Ethel Mae (Wofford) Sweet. He grew up and spent the majority of his life in Talala. Bill attended and graduated from Talala Public School in 1950. He was married to Lena Mae (Patty) Doshier May 6, 1952, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
As a young man Bill was known for his horsemanship and breaking many horses both as a hobby and a job. He later operated a dump truck and then worked the majority of his career in the aerospace industry, both at Rockwell International and Boeing in Tulsa. Bill always enjoyed livestock, having horses and raising cattle, at one time even raising goats to milk for his granddaughter.

Bill is survived by two children, Dale Sweet and wife Kerry of Talala, and Randy Sweet and wife Jayne of Madison, Pennsylvania, eight grandchildren; CareyMichelle Sweet, Hailey, Sweet, Billy Sweet and wife Misty, Shelly Thompson-Wood, Stacie Thompson-Moore, Cody Sweet, Hannah Sweet, and Lukke Sweet. Bill is also survived by several great grandchildren, brother, Glenn Sweet, sister, Joann Compston, and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Patty, daughter, Vickie Diann Sweet- Thompson, parents, Orlando and Ethel, and brothers, Jimmy Sweet and Bob Sweet.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Celebration of Life services will be held at the Talala First Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, with Reverend Steve Lewis officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Billy Sweet, Larry Compston, Leonard Sweet, Barry Sweet, Brent Salt, and Ray Hancock. Honorary casket bearers will be Glenn Sweet, Donny Wofford, Dewayne Sweet, Walter “Bunk” Hall, Harvey Lewis, Melvin Hart, Butch Dikeman, and Rusty Cox. Committal service and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Talala. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Bill’s honor to Kindful Hospice, 8010 South 101st East Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74133, or the Talala Fairview Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 103, Talala, Oklahoma, 74080. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
