Cherokee Nation Calendar of Events for March
 
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —The Cherokee Nation hosts its annual Public School Appreciation Day in March, donating millions to school districts throughout northeast Oklahoma. There are also several community Cherokee language classes available for the public this month. Calendar items for March are as follows:
March 2
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Tribal registration help with citizenship applications in Jay at the Sam Hider Health Center, 1015 Washbourne St. Call 918-253-4271.
6 to 8 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Language Specialist Dorothy Powell teaches a free weekly Cherokee language class at the Webbers Falls Museum, 301 Commercial St., Webbers Falls. Classes are Mondays through March. For more information, call Edna Jones at 918-453-5151.
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Language Specialist Alice Wilder teaches a free weekly Cherokee language class at the Rogers County Cherokee Association building, 15488 East 523 Road, Claremore. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Language Specialist DJ McCarter  teaches a free weekly Cherokee language class at Elm Tree Baptist Church, 1390 Crafton St., Tahlequah. Classes are Mondays and Tuesdays only through March. For more information, call Edna Jones at 918-453-5151.

March 3
6 to 9 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation History and Humanities Course will host classes at Rogers State University in Claremore every Tuesday and Thursday in March. Classes will not be in session during Spring Break, March 16-20. For more information, call 918-207-4920.
5:45 to 7:45 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Language Specialist Sandra Turner teaches a weekly Cherokee language class at the Cherokee Nation Early Childhood Unit’s conference room, Cherokee St., Tahlequah. Classes are Tuesdays only through March. For more information, call Edna Jones at 918-453-5151.
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cherokee Nation and Oklahoma Blood Institute host a blood drive at W.W. Hastings Hospital’s Support Services Conference Room, located near Urgent Care, 100 Bliss Ave., in Tahlequah. For more information, visit www.obi.org.

6 to 9 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Community and Cultural Outreach hosts a digital technology training taught by Technical Assistance Specialist Kevin Stretch at the Sequoyah High School library in Tahlequah. Subjects will include word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphic design and publishing. Class meets every other week for a total of eight meetings. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cherokee Nation museums will have hands-on crafting opportunities for children to take home what they make, including beaded bracelets at the John Ross Museum, historic photo tinting at the Cherokee National Prison Museum and a Cherokee syllabary lesson about animals at the Supreme Court Museum. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. – The Cherokee Heritage Center in Park Hill hosts Indian Territory Days, a two-day event that provides children hands-on activities, games and demonstrations on Cherokee life in the late 19th century. March 27
11 a.m. – Cherokee Nation’s Public School Appreciation Day at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 777 W. Cherokee St., in Catoosa. The Cherokee Nation will distribute checks totaling $4 million to school system superintendents and representatives from the tribe’s Motor Vehicle Tax funds.
