Cherokee Nation calendar of events in March

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation brings its history & humanities course to the public in the northern region of the tribe’s 14-county jurisdiction in March. The tribe is also continuing to provide free tax preparation for qualifying citizens and other exciting events, which are as follows:

March 1

The Cherokee Nation, in partnership with the IRS, continues to offer free tax preparation for qualifying individuals at several sites through April 15. Dates and times vary by location. Services are by appointment only. Taxes can also be prepared online at http://www.myfreetaxes.com/CNCherokeeNationFSA. For more information, call 918-453-5536.

March 3

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Tribal registration help with citizenship applications at the Sam Hider Health Center, 1015 Washbourne St. in Jay. Call 918-253-4271 for more information.

5 to 5:30 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation offers a free exercise class Monday through Thursday at the Cherokee Nation AMO Health Center in Salina. The class is open to the public and is also offered from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact Tony Ballou at 918-434-8500, ext. 8674.

March 4

6 to 8:30 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation History & Humanities Course is being offered at the Vinita Health Center, 27371 S. 4410 Road, Vinita. The class is free and open to the public. March 6

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Cherokee Nation offers free tax preparation at Will Rogers Health Center, 1020 Lenape Drive, Nowata, for families that earned less than $51,567 last year. For more information and to schedule an appointment, call 918-342-6803.

March 10

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Tribal registration help with citizenship applications in South Coffeyville, 215 Oklahoma St. Call 918-563-9329 for more information.

6 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Tribal Council meeting at the W.W. Keeler Complex, Tribal Council Chambers in Tahlequah. For the agenda, visithttp://legislative.cherokee.org/.

March 11

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Career Services will host a food service job fair at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. Native American preference will be given for positions. Applicants must bring their CDIB and tribal citizenship cards, be at least 18 years of age and be prepared for an on-the-spot interview. March 14

6 to 8:30 p.m. – The Cherokee Nation History & Humanities Course is being held at the Native American Fellowship building, 215 Oklahoma St., South Coffeyville. March 16

March 17

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Tribal registration help with citizenship applications in Collinsville, 105 E. Main St. Call 918-371-3265 for more information.

6 -7 p.m. – Cherokee Nation Vinita Health Center will host a breast cancer awareness event. Festivities will include celebrating survivors and the release of balloons with a message attached in honor of those who have passed. Health officials will also speak about the importance of mammograms and self-checks, while also answering any questions the public may have. March 19

March 20

6 p.m. – A cancer survivor group meeting will be held at the Healthy Living Campus, building 3 conference room, in Tahlequah, 1400 S. Hensley Drive. The meeting provides ongoing support for survivors and their families and caregivers. For more information, call Mary Owl at 918-525-2717.

March 26
