Cherokee Nation Foundation accepting applications for upcoming ACT Prep and college-readiness programs

Officials encourage incoming high school juniors and seniors to apply

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation Foundation is partnering with local universities to help rising juniors and seniors prepare for college and connect with university representatives from across the nation.

“This year, we are pleased to partner with Northeastern State University and Oklahoma State University to continue preparing students for success,” said Janice Randall, executive director of the Cherokee Nation Foundation. “Our programs offer a unique opportunity for students to gain an in-depth look at higher education.”

CNF is partnering with NSU to host a weeklong college-readiness camp on June 8 at the college’s Tahlequah campus. Participating students will receive 15 hours of intensive ACT prep instruction as well as college workshops focusing on admissions, financial aid and scholarships, essay writing, and time management. An official ACT test will conclude the camp on June 13. NSU and Cherokee Nation Foundation scholarships will provide all food, lodging, materials and testing fees.

Applications are accepted for the college-readiness camp at NSU until April 4.

CNF is also partnering with OSU to offer the third annual Cherokee College Prep Institute to be held at OSU’s Stillwater campus from July 13 – 18. With a 5-to-1 student-faculty ratio, students will analyze, prepare and complete college applications, identify scholarship opportunities, and explore schools of interest. CCPI’s engaging curriculum, developed in cooperation with College Horizons and participating university faculty, includes interactive sessions focusing on ACT strategies, essay writing, interview skills and time management.

Applications are accepted for 2014’s Cherokee College Prep Institute until March 31.

This year’s participating university faculty include the University of Arkansas, University of Central Arkansas, University of Central Oklahoma, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Northeastern State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Pennsylvania, Rogers State University, Stanford University, University of Illinois at Irbana/Champaign, University of Tulsa, Bacone College and Yale University.
