TAHLEQUAH, Okla.—Cherokee Nation will honor eight certified Indian-owned businesses of the year for 2013 at a dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa on Thursday, Nov. 21.

“We’re excited for this year’s awards dinner and the chance to recognize the best of those businesses that are providing high quality service to the Cherokee Nation,” said Jon Overacker, director of Cherokee Nation TERO. “The awards dinner and preceding vendor fair are great ways for our TERO vendors to network and see those businesses that are being recognized.”

Businesses that stood out in eight categories—community leadership, customer service, consulting firm, construction company, retail business, woman-owned business, small business and large business—will be recognized.

The awards banquet follows a TERO vendor fair, also held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, where more than 100 businesses will be set up to display information on their companies and services. The fair is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cherokee Nation TERO has a list of 795 Indian-owned vendors. It monitors and enforces the Cherokee Nation tribal TERO ordinance to ensure employee rights are being practiced in the 14-county tribal jurisdiction. It negotiates for job slots for contractors doing business with the Cherokee Nation and refers qualified Indian workers to fill those vacancies.
