12/24/2018 – Owners of a home in Owasso’s Elm Creek neighborhood heard a noise in their garage just before 4:00pm Christmas Eve. When they checked to see what it was, they saw flames and exited the residence.
Owasso Fire Chief David Hurst tells Owassoisms the fire started in the garage and spread to the attic. When OFD arrived, they entered through the front door encountering heavy smoke and high heat. They made it to the garage, extinguishing the seat of the fire. The fire had also spread into the attic.
The fire damaged the garage and areas of the attic with heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
The homeowners were all safe, and have made arrangements to stay with family.
Hurst tells us initial determination for cause of the fire is a malfunction of a battery being charged in the garage.
As of 7:00pm, firefighters were still on the scene.
