Oklahoma State Superintendent Janet Barresi and the State Board of Education designated 2,754 graduating seniors from the class of 2014 as Oklahoma Academic Scholars.
Schools where the seniors attend were mailed certificates and gold seals to be affixed to the graduates’ diplomas.
“It is such an honor to recognize these students for their outstanding academic achievement,” Barresi said. “Their tenacity and hard work sets an example for others to follow. They now can be confident that they are prepared for whatever their future may hold, whether that be higher education, service to their country or entrance into the work force. They deserve our heartfelt accolades.”
The Oklahoma Academic Scholars program recognizes graduating seniors that meet all of the following criteria:
- Accumulate over Grades 9, 10, 11 and the first semester of Grade 12, a minimum grade point average of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale, or be in the top 10 percent of their class.
- Complete (or will complete) the curricular requirements for a standard diploma.
- Achieve a 27 composite score on the ACT or 1220 combined reading and mathematics score on the SAT I. The ACT or SAT I must have been taken on a national test date.
Names are submitted by each public and private high school. There are more than 39,000 students enrolled in 12th grade this school year.
