Edward Steele Sunday Jr.Edward Steele Sunday, Jr., was born February 5, 1939, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Edward Steele Sunday, Sr., and Gertrude Boswell Sunday. Ed departed this life to go to his heavenly home to be with Jesus, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 83. The son of a minister, Ed was raised in several small Oklahoma towns ending up in Stigler, Oklahoma, and graduating from Stigler High School. It was in Stigler that he met Fleeta White on a blind date, August 25, 1956, and marrying her 208 days later on March 20, 1957, in Haskell, Oklahoma. After his daughters Tami and Juli were born, Ed and Fleeta relocated to Owasso in 1963. Their son Mark joined the family in 1968. Ed worked for the Oklahoma Air National Guard attaining the rank of Master Sergeant and the Tulsa Fire Department retiring as Fire Captain. Ed also owned and operated a one-man sign shop, Sunday Signs, for many years before closing it due to health issues. He then became Fleeta’s full-time Real Estate assistant. Ed was a longtime faithful member of Rejoice Church, formerly Owasso Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent as well as several building and relocation committees. He was proud of his citizenship with the Cherokee Nation.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mark, brother, Loren Sunday, sisters, Loretta Shrum and Wilma McBride, and son-in-law, Joe John Edwards.

Funeral service will be held on Ed’s birthday, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating. Final resting place will be at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Ed’s memory to the Owasso Fire Prevention Association, c/o Johnny Peterson, 11933 East 116th Street North, Collinsville, Oklahoma, 74021.
