10/30/2018 – Tulsa: A piece of flying history – the Flagship Detroit – will stop at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium on November 10-12.  The Flagship Detroit is a Douglas DC-3 aircraft built in 1937.  It’s one of the original flagship airplanes used by American Airlines in the 30’s and 40’s. The Flagship Detroit is a historical aircraft and is esteemed as the “World’s Oldest Flying DC-3.”

It flew in service for American Airlines from 1937-1944. Former Chief Pilot of American Airlines, Zane Lemon, and a group of other pilots had been on the hunt for a DC-3 for years. When they found the Flagship Detroit, it was in service as a mosquito sprayer.  The Flagship Detroit is beautiful aircraft that has been meticulously restored to its original glory.

The Flagship Detroit will be at TASM providing open house tours and Flagship Detroit Foundation (FDF) membership rides.  A maximum of 20  FDF membership rides must be sold in order for the aircraft to fly, FDF membership rides can be purchased below or in person at TASM.  FDF membership ride tickets also includes admission to the museum’s exhibit hall.  If you purchase a FDF membership ride, you must sign a passenger waiver to board the aircraft: Adult Waiver or Minor (under 18) Waiver.
