Hillcrest Medical Center to Host Local  “Shine a Light On Lung Cancer” Event Thursday, November 20

TULSA, OK – Hillcrest Medical Center is proud to be the only Oklahoma “Shine A Light On Lung Cancer” vigil site. The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 20 from 6 – 7:30 pm in Oklahoma Heart Institute Lecture Hall, located at 1200 South Trenton, located on the Hillcrest Medical Center campus. This event is open to all members of the community. To register to attend the event, please visit www.ShineALightOnLungCancer.org/Tulsa.

Hillcrest Medical Center will join 125 communities across the nation by hosting a Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil in partnership with Lung Cancer Alliance. The vigil is part of a national campaign to raise awareness for lung cancer and to offer hope, inspiration, support and remembrance for all those touched by lung cancer. Presentations will include advancements in lung cancer screening and treatment and survivor stories.

Each year, more Americans die from lung cancer than any other major cancer – breast, prostate, and colon combined. It accounts for 30% of all cancer related deaths and yet, it is the least funded in terms of overall research dollars. As a result, only 15% of those diagnosed with lung cancer live longer than five years.

To encourage early diagnosis and treatment, The Lung Center at Hillcrest offers a screening for individuals who are current or former smokers, in the age group of 55 to 80 years, and have a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years. The cost is usually $99 based on insurance.

For more than 95 years, Hillcrest Medical Center has prided itself in establishing an environment of hope, health and healing. Today, the hospital is among Oklahoma’s most widely respected and acclaimed hospitals, offering extraordinary care in many areas including emergency care, stroke and neurology care, cardiology, orthopedics, burn care and women’s services.
