Historical Cherokee musical seeking actors for summer performance

Auditions for children, adults held May 3-4 at Fly Loft

TULSA, Okla. – A musical based on the life of one of the most influential women in Cherokee history is coming this August, when The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa hosts “Nanyehi – Beloved Woman of the Cherokee.”

“Nanyehi” is the story of Nancy Ward, a legendary woman who was first honored in the 18th century as a Cherokee war woman, but then as a peacemaker during the American Revolution.

To tell the story, the Tulsa production is seeking nearly 30 actors to complete the cast. Principal roles and chorus parts are available for both Native Americans and non-Native Americans, and for both singers and non-singers.

Auditions will be held at the Fly Loft on May 3 for children ages 4-15 from 10-11:30 a.m. and for adults from 1-5 p.m. Auditions will resume May 4 from 1-5 p.m. The Fly Loft is located at 117 N. Boston Ave.

The auditions will consist of readings from the script and singing a song of the singer’s choice. Singers should bring their own accompanist, or may sing live to tracks or a cappella. A keyboard and CD player will be provided.

Principals will receive stipends ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the role. Non-paying cast roles also are available.

For fee amounts and more info, contact producer Vern Stefanic at [email protected]

The musical is written by Nashville-based, award-winning songwriter Becky Hobbs and playwright Nick Sweet. It will feature New York-based actress Michelle Honaker in the title role.

“Nanyehi” is presented by Cherokee Nation Businesses and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. Additional details for the August performance will be announced at a later date.
