J.J. Dossett, a Democrat from Owasso who ran to fill Rick Brinkley’s vacated Senate District 34 seat, defeated Republican candidate David McLain with 56 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Dossett found out about his win as he was coaching the Owasso Boys Basketball team Tuesday evening. On his campaign Facebook page he stated “Many thanks to all who placed your faith in me during the last four months. I am your new senator, and it’s all due to the support that you poured into this campaign. I commend David McLain and his team for their hard work and an honorable race. I’m not ever going to forget our official announcement of the win at the end of tonight’s first quarter!

Dossett is a teacher at Owasso High School and an active member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard where he has served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
