Spread the love

Jerry Wayne Jost was born April 6, 1944, in Tulsa Oklahoma to Sam and Helen Franz Jost. He died September 11, 2025 at the age of 81. Jerry grew up on his mom and dad’s dairy farm milking 80 head of cattle a day in Owasso, Oklahoma, also working long hard days in the field planting and harvesting wheat, corn, and soy bean. After graduating from Owasso High School in 1963, he realized dairy farming was not for him and went to work at Rockwell International in Tulsa, working in carpentry and building churches. He eventually was hired as a carpenter at the Ford Glass plant in Tulsa with the help of Max Radar, and worked there until he later retired. In June of 1964, he married high school sweetheart Sandra Jost and they had two children, Sherri and Steve. In June 19,1992, Jerry married the love of his life and late wife, Margaret Christine Jost.

Jerry was a dad, mentor, and friend to many. His warm and genuine nature meant that he not only loved to make people laugh, but that he never met a stranger – no matter how ordinary or famous the person was. Jerry’s sociable nature meant that he was not afraid to approach anyone – even Garth Brooks when Jerry saw him at the airport, fooling everyone into thinking they were longtime friends.

Anyone who knew Jerry knew that he loved OU football, and that fall was his favorite season because of the Sooners. He was famous in his neighborhood for blowing his truck’s horn every time OU scored. While football was his second love, God was his first, and he dedicated his life and work to the Lord. At a young age, Jerry accepted Christ as his savior at Westport Mennonite Brethren Church in Collinsville, and was baptised in his family’s pond. He instilled in his children the importance of hard work, determination, and working as unto the Lord. In his last year of life, Jerry often talked about the fact that he couldn’t wait to meet Jesus and be with the loved ones who had gone before him. As he waited, he enjoyed his beloved dogs, peanut butter bars, white chocolate frappachinos, and Bavarian cream-filled donuts.
