J SpencerRet. Staff Sergeant Jess Franklin “Bud” Spencer of Owasso, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 in Tulsa. He was 89. He was born on November 28, 1926 to Jess Bushyhead Spencer and the former Susanna Margaret Blakemore in Owasso.

Visitation for Bud will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at Collinsville Dolton Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Church of the Nazarene in Collinsville with Pastor Tim Odom officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore.

Bud made his career in the United States Army where he served his country proudly. He spent time overseas during Korea and the Vietnam War. He was a decorated soldier and earned the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and a Purple Heart. Having retired from the Army in 1974, Bud and his wife Louise moved their family from Fort Hood, TX to Owasso. They were devoted members of the Nazarene Church in Collinsville. Bud has many family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Bud is survived by his wife Louise Spencer of the home; 3 sons, Roger Spencer and wife Brenda, Dennis Spencer and wife Elonda, and Steven Spencer and wife Desiree; 3 sisters, Addie Bell Hurless, Jo Ellen Groesbeck, and Frankie Hobbs; 1 brother, Bill Spencer; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Sherry Ballard; 2 sisters, Mary and Betty Jo Spencer; and 3 brothers, Junior, Benny, and Bob Spencer.
