Joe Barter was born January 21, 1929, at Manitou, Oklahoma, to Joseph Richard and Nora Lee (Weir) Barter. He died Friday, May 13, 2016, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. Joe was reared and educated in Tipton, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Tipton High School Class of 1947. He was married August 22, 1947, in Vernon, Texas, to the former Shirley Mignon Robertson. They had made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma, before moving to Collinsville. Joe spent most of his working life as an inspector with American Airlines in Tulsa. He was a longtime faithful member of the Collinsville First Baptist Church. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including traveling and camping, but he was most fond of spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James Barter and John Barter.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Collinsville First Baptist Church with Tim Prock officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Herman Moon, George Jefferson, Ken Fritz, and Lawrence Fulton. Committal service and interment will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Collinsville. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
