L BishopLeon Allen Bishop was born September 3, 1930, in Independence, Kansas, to Edward Elmer and Agnes P. (Redman) Bishop. He died February 22, 2016, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years. Leon grew up and went to school in Independence, Kansas. He married Bernetta Vantrease on May 1, 1949, in Independence. Leon and Bernetta moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1961 and then to Owasso in 1980, where they made their home since that time. Leon spent most of his working life as a sheet metal assembler with Rockwell International in Tulsa. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Owasso. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Owasso Masonic Lodge #545, where he received his 40-year membership pin. Leon enjoyed a variety of pastimes including fishing and hunting; but in later years, he most enjoyed spending time with his family and playing dominoes and cards with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Joyce Thurman, four brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Chris Wall officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Randy Bishop, Jacob Harshman, Charles Thurman, and James Bishop, Jr. Honorary casket bearer will be Jerrold Thurman. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Neodesha Cemetery in Neodesha, Kansas. The family requests memorial contributions be made to FBCO – Mission Owasso, P.O. Box 1020, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055.
