DavisMarjory Anne Davis, resident of Owasso and formerly of Enid, OK was born June 6, 1925, at Leon, Iowa to Walter A. and Mildred Wilhelm Guthrie. She passed from this life on Tuesday evening, October 28, 2014 at the age of 89 years. Marjory grew up in Chillicothe and Kirksville, Missouri where she graduated from high school in 1943. In 1944, she came to Enid with her parents and worked at the office of the Champlain Refining Company. In 1945, Marjory enrolled at Phillips University, majoring in music and played clarinet in the band. There she met her future husband who was also a band member. On April 12, 1946, at the home of her parents in Enid, she married Oscar B. Davis, Jr., a student in the College of the Bible. They were happily married for 68 years. After her husband finished his studies at Phillips University in 1946, they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he enrolled in the School of Religion at Butler University for graduate studies. There she worked at a large bank and taught night classes at a business college. When Rev. Davis assumed the pastorate of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Springdale, Arkansas, she taught school there. In 1964, she earned the Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and in 1965, earned her Master of Education degree. In 1965, they moved to Pauls Valley, OK where her husband pastured the Christian Church. There she also taught school. In 1966, she was asked by the University of Arkansas to teach a summer course in music to those preparing to participate in the first governmental Head Start Program. In 1971, they moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa where Mr. Davis pastored and she taught school. When he retired from the pastoral ministry, they returned to Enid where she taught school until retirement in 1986.

Marjory was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two brothers and her son David. She is survived by her husband and grieving family members – daughters Margaret A. Michael and Betty L. Firth; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Marjory was a loving wife and close associate with her husband in his ministry, a nurturing mother and a sincere Christian. Hers was a well-lived life which was a wonderful example and inspiration to her family and to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 1, 201,4 in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service with Chaplain Terry Snelling officiating. Graveside rites will be in the City Cemetery of Dexter Missouri on Monday, November 3, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Marjory’s memory may be made to the Tulsa SPCA, 2910 Mohawk Blvd., Tulsa, OK 74110 or the Enid Humane Society, 1116 Overland Trail, Enid, OK 73703.
