How can I minimize the appearance of stretch marks?
Stretch marks typically occur during pregnancy due to the relatively rapid stretching of skin that occurs. The most important way to prevent stretch marks is simply to keep the skin as moisturized as possible during pregnancy. This is especially important during the last trimester when the most significant stretching occurs. Maintaining good skin hydration consists of a combination of making sure you moisturize the skin twice daily with a thick cream, such as a cocoa butter cream, and making sure to drink plenty of water. Dry skin tends to tear easier and leaves more profound marks behind.
After pregnancy, there aren’t any fool proof ways to remove stretch marks that have already occurred. If a tummy tuck is done to remove loose skin, many of the stretch marks will also be removed. If surgery is not an option, then laser treatment is the most effective tool.
