Tri County Blue Star Mother, Chapter 17, Owasso, OK of the Blue Star Mothers of America recently voted to close after 8 years because of a lack of members.

The Blue Star Mothers is an organization of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and guardians of children serving in the military, guard or reserves, past or present. There are about 200 chapters nationwide.

“We would like to thank the communities of Owasso, Skiatook, OK and surrounding communities for the many years of support they have given,” Tri County Blue Star Mothers, Chapter President Patsy Reid said. “Without that support, we would not have been able to take care of the military in the manner that we have.”

The group prepared and mailed ‘freedom boxes’ consisting of personal hygiene items, snacks and socks to members of the military whose names were given to the organization by family members, she said.

We have many to thank for their support. We want to thank D.J. Gall for his donating a place for us to meet, at The Dirty Dawg Car Wash and Storage, Ron Bennett of Baker/Hughes in Claremore, assistance in mailing the Freedom Boxes. Without their help we could not have one all that we were able to do. We’ve had a number of businesses allow us to place bins for donated items. In addition to being able to send boxes to our troops, we were able to help a number of veteran groups as well.
