The Owasso Golden Agers are proud to announce that funds through the Community Expansion of Nutrition Assistance Program in the form of a 2013-2014 grant of $7,315 has been made available for a project at the Owasso Community Center.
Community Expansion of Nutrition Assistance (CENA) Program is a state-funded community nutrition program that provides funding for the general improvement of nutritional and social conditions for senior Oklahomans. CENA funds assist with providing increased meals and expanding social activities for senior Oklahomans at statewide Senior Centers. As CENA Service Providers, Oklahoma Regional Councils of Government and Department of Human Service Area Agencies on Aging coordinate with Oklahoma senior citizens to improve social and nutritional needs for senior adults.
The Owasso Golden Agers have housed their program at the Community Center on weekdays since the building opened in 1977. The grant will provide funds to purchase service equipment that includes a HDTV; speakers, receiver, home theater system including a projector, laptop and accessories.
The senior program at the Community Center provides area seniors with a diverse program of activities including a nutritional lunch. The Tulsa & Creek Counties Senior Nutrition Program serves over 2,000 meals daily and supports programs of fun and fellowship for seniors. The mission of the senior nutrition program is dedicated to ensuring the vitality and longevity of the physical, mental and nutritional needs of senior citizens residing in Tulsa and Creek Counties of Oklahoma. Seniors 60 years of age or over or those with a spouse that is an eligible participant are encouraged to dine at the Owasso Community Center, 301 South Cedar Street, Owasso (off 76th Street and behind Fire Station #2) Monday through Thursday at 11 a.m. – all for a suggested donation of $2.00.
