09/02/2025 – Nearly a year after a tragic accident on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike, an Owasso man is preparing to stand trial.

On October 6, 2024, Kreshardra MeKellie Willhoite and her family pulled over near mile marker 65 in Caddo County after their vehicle broke down. While she and her brother searched for a missing tire, they crossed to the eastbound side of the highway. That’s when investigators say a car driven by 51-year-old Wallace Cleveland Clay struck Willhoite, throwing her over a guardrail. She died instantly.

Instead of stopping, Clay allegedly continued driving. Willhoite’s brother witnessed the impact and quickly called for help. Police in Chickasha stopped Clay about 15 miles away, noting damage to his car. According to reports, Clay claimed he believed he had struck a bird while on the phone with his insurance company.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers collected photos and evidence, including tissue inside the car and on Clay’s clothing. He was arrested and later released on bond. Clay is now set to face a jury on March 23, 2026, charged with leaving the scene of a fatality accident.
