In early September 2014, the Owasso Police Department began working with proactively utility providers to combat repeated instances of copper wire theft from utility poles in the area of E 76 ST N and N Mingo Road in Owasso. The thefts represented a substantial financial loss for utility companies responsible replacing the cables as well as the local businesses affected by extended internet and telephone service outages when the lines were damaged.

On 09/15/2014, at approximately 6:00AM, Owasso Police apprehended a suspect as he attempted to remove a large elevated utility cable from a pole near 9700 E 70 ST N in Owasso. The suspect had numerous tools in his possession at the time of his arrest, including bolt cutters and saws capable of cutting the heavy 3” copper utility wire. Owasso Detectives are currently investigating to determine if this suspect is responsible for the other recent copper thefts in the same area.

The suspect was identified as Robert Crawford Scott (age 52) of Tulsa. Scott was taken into custody on the charge of Receiving/Possessing Stolen Copper. He is currently in the Owasso City Jail pending transport to Tulsa County.
