Patricia Kathryn “Pat” Marlar, longtime resident of Owasso, passed from this life onTuesday afternoon at her home. She was 69 years of age. Pat was born January 19, 1947 in Carthage, New York to Clarence and Verna (Downing) Sweetman. She spent her early years in Carthage, NY before the family moved to Tulsa where she completed her schooling, graduating from East Central High School. Pat later continued her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. On June 23, 1978, she was united in marriage to Nick G. Marlar at Miami, OK and they made their home in Owasso. Pat was active in city government and had served on the Owasso city council and had also been Owasso’s first female mayor.
In her leisure time, Pat enjoyed sewing and gardening, but her priority was always her husband, children and grandchildren.
Those that survive include her husband Nick of the home; children – William Christensen and wife Dona of Owasso, Rick Antle and wife Kelly of Claremore, Dale Marlar of Oklahoma City, OK and Nikki Marlar of Broken Arrow. Also surviving are her sisters Judith Ann Sweetman of Tulsa and Marcia Stephens of Broken Arrow; as well as 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Bill Sweetman.
Visitation for Pat will be from 6-8pm on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Mowery Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 6 th in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Horton officiating. At Pat’s request, cremation will take place after the services.
