04/30/2018 –  A bill in the Oklahoma Senate would create a separate classification for large school districts (over 2,250 students) that have only one high school.

This afternoon we asked Coach Blankenship what he thought about the proposed Senate Bill, his response “In a word: ABSURD”.

Senate Bill 1599 was originally proposed earlier this month to cover appropriations and budget procedures. But a committee inserted an amendment into the bill on Monday, April 30, 2018 that would go much further.

“District alignments, tournaments or contests in which the largest class of schools is exclusively comprised of high schools in which the average daily attendance is greater than two thousand two hundred fifty students with only one high school.”

The bill would require the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association to create a separate classification for Broken Arrow, Jenks, Owasso, Mustang, Tulsa Union and Yukon.

Should this become law, it would take effect on July 1st of next year.
