 Owasso  City Council Hosts Reception

for Exchange Students from Chaumont France

The Owasso City Council  hosted a reception for forty-nine exchange students from Chaumont France Tuesday night, before their regular council meeting.

The students and four adults arrived Saturday and will be here through  February 16.  This marks the fifth time Owasso has hosted students from Chaumont.   Owasso students have visited their town four times. 

2Harry Luppi, an Ambassador from Chaumont, said the United States has a long history with the town of Chaumont. General John J. Pershing arrived in Chaumont in 1917 on orders from President Woodrow Wilson to assist the French in defeating the Germans in World War 1. He made his command center in Chaumont.

During the 1950’s and 1960’s the Oklahoma National Guard maintained a base in Chaumont where several relationships were formed and continue to be a part of Chaumont today. 

Chaumonts population is equivalent to Owasso.

At City Council Tuesday, Mayor Dunn presented a proclamation declaring a Sister City relationship between Owasso Oklahoma and the city of Chaumont France.  

Thursday the group will travel to the State Capital and meet with State Officials.
