Spread the love

Three years ago, Mary Vines began making jewelry as a hobby, a means to de-stress from her job as a title company owner. She gave much of it  as gifts and even made jewelry upon request, so the logical next step was to make that her new business. “I can only wear so much!” she says. “Everyone said I should start selling, so now I have a little shop.”

Whether you are looking for a gift for a loved one or something for yourself, Rocks and Pearls carries it all, from rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and matching sets, to non-jewelry items such as napkin
rings, wine glass charms, key rings, eyeglass holders and more.

It may be a” little shop,” but there’s lots of items for ladies of all ages. And it’s all made of unique materials—as the name suggests—from rocks, gemstones and copper, to animal fur, leather, metal, crystal and pearls. It’s not your common silver and gold, but that’s what makes it Vines’ signature style. “I like different and unique, and I usually tell my husband that’s why I married you!” she says.

“I am constantly learning new media,” Vines says. “Most recently, I’ve begun making some Bohemian-style pieces, braiding around stones and/or macramé. Also, we can capture treasured items into clear acrylic or into jeweler’s cement to hang as a pendant.

“I like finding unusual items and crafting them into a wearable piece. I did an acrylic pendant with colored gemstone chips, making a
beach scene and added a sand dollar and a bucket charm, partially sticking out of the acrylic (3-D). I love that one!”

Vines says she has antlers she plans to saw up and scraps of fox fur from Alaska she will soon work into jewelry or charms, along with Buffalo teeth. If you can imagine it, she can create it, working with you to create custom pieces tailored to your specifications. “Also, if you’ve seen a certain look somewhere you like, we can tailor something similar,” she says.

Vines’ Owasso studio, where she handcrafts most items, is also the display area/store. She knew right away it was the perfect city for
her new business.  “I’ve lived here almost seven years, and I love all the changes I’ve seen take place,” she says. “I think Owasso is the best place to live in Oklahoma; it’s clean, inviting and has great shopping!”

She reminds customers that “custom” doesn’t have to mean “expensive.” While the average price of most pieces is around $20, Vines’ works range from $1 to $100. Stop by and see what she can create for you.
