Spread the love

r-wellsRoy Henry Wells passed from this life to his eternal life with Christ in heaven on October 27, 2016.
Born in Henrietta, Oklahoma on March 2, 1930 to Thomas J. Wells and Izora Dot Wells who were married in Indian Territory in 1905 and who preceded him in death. Roy was the eighth and last child of this marriage. His sisters and brothers were: Ocie Opal Breshears, Vera Varnetta Episcope, William Lewis “Bud” Wells, Carl Thomas Wells, Versa Lee Miller, Thelma Dot Walters and Dorothy Louise Wells.
Growing up, Roy lived in a variety of Oklahoma towns: Coleman, Tulsa, Durant, Tishomingo and a short time in Dumas, Texas. After graduating from Coleman High School, Roy joined the Army in July 1947 and served on active duty in Japan and Korea and later in the Army Reserves and Oklahoma National Guard. He retired from military service in 1979 with the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch.
Roy married Betty Rose Patterson in August, 1954 in Durant, Oklahoma. Although Betty passed away last year, she was his faithful partner for more than 60 years. Roy graduated from the Oklahoma University Law School in 1959 and spent most of his working career with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs until he retired in 1987. Roy accepted Christ as his Savior in 1963 at Airport Free Will Baptist church in Tulsa due to the witness of his wife Betty and other influential Christian men in his life at the time. Since that time, Roy actively served in various capacities in his church such as treasurer, groundskeeper, trustee and deacon. All of his life, Roy loved the typical team sports such as baseball, softball, basketball, football and wrestling. He almost never missed his sons’ games in these activities and always gave positive, encouraging advice in both losing and winning situations. Although not always a successful hunter or fisherman, he loved being in the outdoors and was an avid sportsman and skilled marksman.
This loving father, grandfather and great grandfather is survived by his adopted daughter; Sandra Jean Watts (Durant, OK); son Roy Steven Wells and his wife Martha (Katy, TX); son David Henry Wells and his wife Peggy (Owasso, OK); four grandchildren Kristin Marie Howard, Nathan Jack Watts, Kevin Daniel Wells and Melanie Dawn Leach and 4 great-grandchildren; Jackson Watts, Presley Watts, Brooklyn Rose Howard and William Jeremy Howard.
Other than his postings with the US Army, Roy lived almost his entire life in Oklahoma and ultimately built his final earthly home on Lake Hudson, just north of Locust Grove, Oklahoma. He was a proud Oklahoma Sooner and the phrase “Boomer Sooner” always brought a smile to his face.
Roy’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Oklahoma Veterans facility in Claremore for their care for him in the last years of his life while he was suffering from the physical and mental deterioration of Alzheimer’s dementia. Internment will be at the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
