08/14/2025 – After more than 30 years in law enforcement โ€” including 15 years leading the Owasso Police Department โ€” Chief Dan Yancey has announced his retirement, effective at the end of August.

Yancey, who began planning his departure last fall, leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and community service. During his tenure, he worked alongside what he describes as โ€œsome of the most committed and courageous individualsโ€ in the profession, facing challenges, celebrating successes, and staying true to the mission of keeping Owasso safe.

In his farewell, Yancey expressed gratitude to the department, the community, and his family for their support throughout his career. While heโ€™s stepping away from the badge, he plans to spend more time with loved ones and continue volunteering in meaningful ways.

Deputy Chief Jason Woodruff will serve as acting chief until officially taking over on September 1. A Colcord, Oklahoma native, Woodruff began his law enforcement career in 1994, working for several agencies before joining Owasso PD in 2004. He rose through the ranks from patrol officer to detective, specializing in child abuse and adult sex crimes investigations, before becoming deputy chief.

Woodruff says heโ€™s honored to lead the department and looks forward to continuing its strong tradition of service. โ€œIโ€™d put the officers and staff of the Owasso Police Department up against any law enforcement agency in the country,โ€ he said.

Starting in September, Woodruff will oversee the departmentโ€™s operations, which currently include 67 sworn officers.
