TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation hosts several events in the month November that are socially-distanced, including drive-through flu clinics and COVID-19 testing.
 
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cherokee Nation’s regular schedule of events is still virtual, socially-distanced and limited to protect against the spread of COVID-19. Calendar items are as follows:
 
Each Monday and Wednesday in November
 
Sequoyah Schools Child Nutrition Program is offering drive-through boxed meals to any child under the age of 18. The packaged meals will consist of breakfast and lunch. For Monday’s pick-up, meal packages will contain Tuesday’s meals, and Wednesday’s pick up will contain Thursday and Friday’s meals. The meal packages will also provide safety instructions for storing the food as well as an after-school snack for each day. The drive-through meal pick-up location will be located in the north parking lot of Sequoyah High School cafeteria on each Monday and Wednesday in November from 12:30-1:30 p.m. For more information call Food Service Supervisor Steve Jones at 918-453-5190 or email [email protected].

Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare is taking applications for the tribe’s Angel Project at various drive-through locations as well as online. To be eligible for the Angel Project, children must be a registered Cherokee Nation citizen age 0-16 and must live within the Cherokee Nation reservation boundaries. Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare will host a Facebook Live Q&A event on becoming a foster or adoptive home for the Cherokee Nation. The live event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Facebook page, “Homes for Cherokee Kids – Indian Child Welfare.”

A dedication ceremony for a Purple Heart memorial statue will be held Saturday, November 7 at 2 p.m. west of the Reasor’s parking lot along Muskogee Avenue in Tahlequah. The memorial statue, which is to honor of all veterans and dedicated to Cherokee warriors, was sculpted by Cherokee National Treasure Troy Jackson. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Secretary of Veterans Affairs S. Joe Crittenden will also lay a wreath following the ceremony.

Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations at Oologah City Hall, located at 225 W. Alta in Oologah, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
 
Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations at the City of Talala, located at 102 W. Watova St. in Talala, from 2-4 p.m.
 
November 11
 
Cherokee Nation tribal complex and satellite offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11 to observe Veterans Day.
 
November 13
 
Cherokee Nation has extended the deadline for its Respond, Recover and Rebuild Disability Assistance Program, which is for Cherokee citizens with disabilities living on the reservation, to Friday, November 13 by 11:59 p.m. The tribe has also expanded the programs eligibility requirements to include any Cherokee Nation citizen who is a disabled veteran who receives VA benefits, regardless of where they reside. Applicants must meet all qualifications listed on the application to be eligible for the $300 stipend. The online application is available at www.cherokee.org under the green Respond, Recover and Rebuild Disability Assistance Program tab. Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations and COVID-19 screenings in Tahlequah at the former Cherokee Casino-Tahlequah building, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
November 17
 
Beginning November 17, Cherokee Nation Health Services will offer after-hours drive-through COVID-19 screenings on every Tuesday and Thursday, from 4- 6 p.m. at all Cherokee Nation health centers. Regular hours for drive-through COVID-19 screenings from 8 a.m. to noon at all Cherokee Nation health centers will also remain. Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations at Vian Peace Center, located at 604 W Scheley St. in Vian, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 
Cherokee Nation Commerce Services will host a virtual Financial Empowerment class to teach attendees different techniques to better handle their finances. The online event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Cisco Webex. The class is free and open to the public. Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations at Mid County Community Building, located at 75371 Hwy 59 in Westville, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
 
Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations at Lighthouse Bartlesville, located at 1411 W. Hensley Blvd. in Bartlesville, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
 
Cherokee Nation Health Services will be offering flu vaccinations and COVID-19 screenings in Tahlequah at the former Cherokee Casino-Tahlequah building, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
