Cherokee Nation offers new transit service in Skiatook

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation is ensuring tribal citizens and employees have reliable public transportation in Skiatook by funding a new transit service with Cimarron Public Transit.

The new service in Skiatook provides $1 roundtrip rides in town and throughout the Cherokee Nation to places of employment, health care facilities, banks, grocery stores or other locations on demand. Riders are encouraged to schedule rides 72 hours in advance.

“Cherokee Nation’s subsidized public transit program ensures all Native Americans, especially tribal elders, have better access to public transportation throughout the tribe’s jurisdiction,” said Tribal Councilor Dick Lay, of Ochelata. “Skiatook citizens will now be able take full advantage of the program. Riders will have more reliable transportation for doctor visits and other vital trips needed throughout the week.”

The full fare of the transit provider will be applied for any mileage outside of the Cherokee Nation.

Riders can call Cimarron Public Transit to schedule a ride at 918-336-2233.
