Claudie James (Shorty) Bishop, resident of Claremore, died suddenly Monday, September 30, 2013 at the home of his father in Owasso. He was 54 years of age. Shorty was born March 1, 1959 in Tulsa to Terry K. and Pat (Jowers) Bishop. He was raised and received his education in Catoosa, graduating from Catoosa high school. From 1981 to 1985, Shorty served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge in 1985, he spent the next two years in the Army Reserve. Shorty spent several years with the janitorialdepartment at the Claremore VeteransCenter. On Sept. 8, 2008, Shorty was united in marriage to Debbie Kay Johnson at Miami, OK and they continued to make their home in Claremore. Shorty enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, and in earlier years, loved to fish and hunt.

Those that survive include his wife – Debbie of the home; a daughter Chelsea Westerfield and husband Kevin of Tulsa; granddaughters Kylin and Charleigh; his father Terry Bishop of Owasso and a sister Terri Ann Alexander of Austin, TX. Also surviving are two nieces Desi of Siloam Springs, AR, Lindsey of Plano, TX and a nephew Travis also of Plano, TX. Shorty was preceded in death by his mother Pat and a brother Kelly Bishop.

Funeral services for Shorty will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the chapel of the Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso with Dr. Loran McAlister officiating. Burial will follow in the Owalla Cemetery, north of Claremore. Visitation was held Wednesday, October 02, 2013 from 4pm – 8pm at Mowery Funeral Service.
