Everett Donald “Don” Simmons was born on June 16, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Albert Llewelyn Simmons and Helen Newland (Calhoun) Simmons. He passed from this life on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years. Don was raised and educated in Tulsa and graduated with the Central High School Class of 1955.
He was married on June 8, 1962, in Rogers, Arkansas to Billie Gail (Wilkerson) Simmons. Though Don and Gail never had children of their own, they were blessed in their life by Judy Lynn Harper, who was like a daughter to them. Judy passed away in 2008, but her children, Alicia Buckingham and Jeffery Harper and his wife Briana, remained a cherished part of Don and Gail’s lives. They were like grandchildren to them and have always lovingly referred to Don and Gail as Grandma and Grandpa. Through Alicia and Jeffery, Don and Gail also experienced the joy of being called Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa by Josh and Jack Buckingham, and Drake and Dillon Harper. Don spent most of his working life in maintenance with numerous companies such as Hughes Tool and Owasso Public Schools. He was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church Owasso where he was very active with the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief team. In his spare time, Don enjoyed a variety of past times such as golfing, hunting, fishing, showing horses and training dogs.
