Hazel McGill Fry Cook

Hazel McGill Fry Cook, age 96, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at 5:15 p.m. in Owasso, Oklahoma. Hazel was born March 11, 1925, to Orley and Elizabeth McGill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 54 years, Marvin Y. Fry, second husband of 15 years, Clayton L. Cook, four sisters, one brother, and a stepdaughter.

She is survived by four sons and their spouses: Wayne and Meredyth Fry, of Mannford, Gary and Anita Fry, of Hominy, Ronald and Jan Fry, of Collinsville, and Keith and Bobbie Fry, of Cleveland, two stepdaughters and spouses, Deborah and Bill Miles, of Tulsa, and Rebecca and John Johnson, of Yukon, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel was Owasso’s oldest living citizen having lived in Owasso for all of her 96 years, five months, and 18 days. For the last 77 years, she has lived in the same house that she and Marvin built on Main Street in Owasso. Hazel attended Owasso Public Schools and was the 1942 class president.

Hazel was also president of the Owasso Cemetery Association and was instrumental in increasing the cemetery to its current size. During World War II she worked for Douglas Aircraft, then later worked for the Owasso Postal Service and the Tulsa County Courthouse. She was a founding member of Christ’s Church of Owasso. Hazel had a deep love for her God, her family, her church family, friends, and the Owasso community.

She will be remembered for being a family-oriented mother, her love of company, and her open invitation to family and friends “to let her beat them at Skip Bo”. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Christ’s Church of Owasso with Pastor Ed Dugan officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Kevin Fry, Jeff Fry, Travis Fry, Patrick Black, Justin Loyd, and Brian Puckett. Committal service and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Owasso.
