Jewel Edith Gardner Brooks was born January 17, 1927, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to John and Lily Hilton Hayes. She died Saturday, November 4, 2017, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 90 years. Jewel was reared and completed her secondary education in Tahlequah. She was married January 24, 1941, in Tahlequah, to Floyd Eldon Gardner. She spent her early working life working at the school cafeteria and also with restaurants. Together with her husband, they owned and operated a nursing home. Floyd preceded her in death on November 26, 2005. She moved to Kansas and was married in June of 2010 in Olathe to James Brooks. Jewel enjoyed a variety of pastimes including sewing and traveling, but she especially enjoyed her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Floyd, sisters, Edna, Ruby, and Mable, and brothers, Dan, and R.D.
Graveside service and interment was held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso with Reverend Joe Thomson officiating. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
