Joy-Jefferson-1450690936Joy Ann (Powell) Jefferson 61, of Nowata, Oklahoma went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 18, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Joy was born May 22, 1954 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Jack & Perline (Pickens) Powell.
The family moved into the Nowata area when Joy was a child. She completed her education at Nowata High School.
She worked at the Nowata Nursing Center for many years while raising her 5 biological children as well as her extended family. Joy loved being outdoors, enjoyed helping others, and gave selflessly to all that crossed her path. Traveling to see her siblings was one of her favorite things to do. You could find her reading her Bible anytime she had a spare moment.
Joy was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for several years and then became a member of Living Word Church. Joy loved the Lord with all her heart, never loosing her faith or her beautiful smile. You never heard one word of complaint, and anytime you would ask her how she was, she would always give a positive reply.

Five children: David Powell of Nowata, OK.
James Powell and wife Tomi Jo of Nowata, OK.
Kenny Powell of Tulsa, OK.
Aisha Powell and husband Malquette of Nowata, OK.
Nakia Dick and husband Jeremy of Bartlesville, OK.
Nine Grandchildren:
Devon Powell, Daylan Powell, Darius Powell, Jasymn Powell, Renea’ Powell,
ShawnPagne Powell, Lomontia Powell, Shwuan Powell, and Shquala Powell.
Four Great-Grandchildren:
Braylin Powell, King Powell, Damari Powell, and Nyla Powell.
Four Brothers:
Herbert Powell of Kansas City, MO
Freddie Powell of Souix City, Iowa
Robert Powell of Corpus Christi, TX.
Jackie Powell of Broken Arrow, OK.
Two Sisters:
Margaret Powell of Tulsa, OK
Bertha Spencer of Mangum OK.
Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins
Joy was preceded in death by her Parents Jack & Perline(Pickens) Powell, one brother Donald Powell, Sr. and all of her Aunts & Uncles.


Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Saturday, December 26, 2015 and 2PM to 8PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 both at Dighton-Moore Funeral Service. Family will receive guests from 6PM to 8PM on Sunday. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00PM Monday, December 28, 2015 at Living Word Family Church in Nowata. Services will be officiated by Joy’s pastor, Rev. James Price. Interment will follow in Nowata Memorial Park.
Pall Bearers include: Malquette Liddell, Lamontia Powell, Mark Simmons, Travis Simmons, Jamie Sier, and Carlos Sier. Honorary Pall Bearers include: Devon Powell and Tanner Belden.
