randyOwasso Community Resources Board President Barbara Owens has announced Randy Cowling as its executive director.

Cowling was recently selected by the board of directors to lead the non-profit organization.

“We are excited to have someone of Randy’s experience and knowledge to lead OCR,” said Owens. “Even after working alongside him on our board, I didn’t realize the extensive background Randy has in helping people. I believe his passion and leadership will continue to make OCR the key place where people can turn for help in Owasso.”

Cowling is no stranger to OCR. He is a current board member and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including vice-president and president. He joined the board in 2007.

“This is a great opportunity to make a positive difference in our community,” said Cowling. “Owasso Community Resources is committed to serving families who need assistance.  It has and will continue to deliver resources that allow families to build a better life.  I look forward to working with the volunteers in meeting the needs of our community.”

He will begin duties as executive director on July 14.

Most recently Cowling was editor of the Claremore Daily Progress. Earlier this year, he led the newspaper to win the Associated Press’ General Excellence Award and the Oklahoma Press Association’s Sequoyah Award. He has been honored with top awards for his writing and photography.

Cowling served as managing editor of the Owasso Reporter from 2004-08.

Prior to moving to Owasso, he served as director of non-profit organizations in Northeast Kansas and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

He and his wife, Pam, reside in Owasso.
