Rejoice Christian Schools’ Middle and High School Drama Department is debuting the musical “Peter Pan” this spring. The first performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, and other performance times are at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. All productions of the musical will be performed at Skiatook High School’s PAC, which is located at 1000 W. 4th St. in Skiatook, Okla.

Rejoice Christian students in grades 7th through 12th are excited to bring Peter Pan’s story to life.

“The students have worked as a team,” said Kara Street, RCS Music and Drama Teacher. “More than 50 students are combining their efforts to create this 2-hour production. This is the first year that Rejoice Christian Schools has produced a 2-hour show. In the past, our musicals have been about an hour long. To prepare for this musical, it takes each student’s support and prayers.”

The 2-hour production of “Peter Pan” features the timeless characters Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, and more. This high-flying TONY Award-winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 years. Peter and Tinkerbell visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night. With a sprinkle of pixie dust, a magical journey across the stars begins that you will never forget. In the adventures, the Darling children come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce tribe, a band of bungling pirates, Captain Hook, and more. Children and adults alike will enjoy this classic adventure brought to the stage.

“The play ‘Peter Pan’ was written in 1908,” Street said. “Then, the play became a novel in 1911. The Disney movie debuted in 1953. In 1955, this musical was written. People have been fascinated with the story since the novel was published. J. M. Barrie wrote the novel, and he based ‘Peter Pan’ on a friendship that he had with a particular family. This family put together plays. Peter Pan’s story has fascinated generations for many years. We all love Peter Pan, and the students and I are excited to bring Peter Pan’s story to a new generation. We can’t wait for the audience to hear and see Peter’s story and the magic of Neverland on stage.”
