SchullianSerena Mae Schullian, age 84, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014. She was a resident at the Evergreen Care Center, Baptist Village, Owasso, OK. Serena was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas on September 28, 1930. Preceding her in death were her parents and stepmother – Joseph Earnest Schullian, Alta Hoesi Schullian and Estella Montgomery Schullian. Serena was also preceded by an infant sister Bonnie Jean Schullian and brother and sister in law, Gustaveous and Leona Schullian, Muskogee. Her stepsister and husband, Nellie Mae Montgomery Lake and Sidney A. Lake preceded her in death as well. Serena had made her home with them for over 50 years. Serena was a lifelong member of Boulevard Christian Church, Muskogee for 78 years. She taught in the 2 year old toddler nursery and assisted in the infant nursery for 35 years. After her retirement from the nursery, she became a member of the Burien Sunday-School Class and was a charter member of the Hilltoppers Senior Bible Study Class. Serena enjoyed traveling with the group to places of interest in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. She was also a longtime member of the Helmer Home Demonstration Club of Muskogee County. Volunteering was an important part of her life and she was a longtime member of the Volunteers of America and the United Way of Muskogee, serving in various capacities and receiving numerous awards for her service.

Serena is survived by her nephew and wife Charles and Eleanor Lake of Sapulpa, OK; their daughter and son in law Carol and Jeff Weaver and their daughter Katherine Grace Nixon of Jenks; also the Lake’s daughter and son in law Susan and John Light and their daughter and son in law, Sarah and Jarred Smart and their son Luke Smart of the Tulsa area, and the Light’s son and daughter in law Bradley and Haley Light of Dallas, TX. Also surviving are Doris Cooper and daughter and son in law, Lisa and Steve Youngquist and their son Jonathon Logan Youngquist of Owasso, OK and Cooper’s son and daughter in law Jeff and Shelly Waters and their children, Ashlyn Michelle Waters, Curtis Allen Waters and Austin Lane Kerns, all of Owasso.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Alsup Chapel of the Baptist Village, Owasso, at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ben Killion officiating. A private interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Muskogee, OK. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
