Owasso Police Release from this mornings accident:

03/10/2021 -“On Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at approximately 6:09AM Owasso Police and Fire responded to a reported rollover vehicle collision involving a Ford Explorer. The Explorer had been traveling Northbound on US169 near the 10300 block when, according to an occupant, one of the tires blew causing the driver to swerve into the median where the vehicle lost control and rolled over. The Explorer rolled over several times, across the Southbound lanes and came to rest in the grass between the Southbound lanes and the West Service Road. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was ejected during the incident and was struck by a vehicle that was traveling Southbound on US169 at the time. The driver of the second vehicle is cooperating fully with investigators and no traffic or criminal charges are expected.

The deceased was identified as 57yo Jose Luis Garcia of Tulsa. He is now in the custody of the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office. Mr. Garcia’s next of kin have been notified of the incident and outcome.

The second occupant, a family member of the deceased, was injured during the crash but is expected to recover.

The driver of the second involved vehicle was questioned and later released by Owasso Police.

Southbound US was closed between 106th St N and 96th St N. All southbound traffic was diverted onto 106th St N where all vehicles were rerouted east or west on 106th St N.

Both travel lanes of Northbound US169 were closed during the investigation, however traffic was able to travel in the emergency shoulder to pass.

All lanes were reopened at 9:04AM once the Medical Examiner took possession of the deceased.

This accident is still under investigation, however contributing factors are thought to be, at this time, rapid deflation of one of the tires causing the vehicle to lose control and lack of seatbelt use which contributed to the ejection and eventual death of the occupant.”
