TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation is offering several workshops and assistance to citizens in March ranging from a small business seminar, conference on the future of water to taking applications for the 2013 Remember the Removal Bike Ride. Events are as follows:
March 4

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Candidates wishing to run for a seat on the Tribal Council must file at the Cherokee Nation Election Commission in Tahlequah. The Tribal Council election is June 22, in which nine seats are on the ballot. Last day to register to vote is April 1. Applicants must be accepted or a full-time student in a nursing program and a Cherokee citizen who lives in the 14 county jurisdiction or contiguous counties. Cherokee veterans can now download the Cherokee Nation Veterans Sales Tax Exemption application in order to get exempted from paying sales tax on certain purchases from tribally owned businesses. Cherokee Nation is offering free home energy audits for Cherokee Nation citizens living in the 14-county jurisdiction. Cherokee Nation Environmental Programs staff will use non-invasive procedures to measure how much air leakage is in your home and will find any leaks using an infrared camera. Along with the energy audit, the Cherokee Nation will provide a free, basic weatherization kit. To schedule an appointment call 918-453-5099.
