07/24/2017 – On Monday, July 3rd at approximately 2PM an Owasso resident, Mr. Michael Anderson, went to watch a movie at the Owasso Theater.

While in the parking lot he walked past a passenger van and noticed an unsupervised young child inside that appeared to be in distress. Mr. Anderson made contact with the young man, a four year old child Anderson described as covered in sweat, and determined he was in need of emergency care.

Mr. Anderson took the child inside, provided him water and called 911. While the child was being treated by Owasso Fire Paramedics, Owasso Police investigated and determined the young man had been left alone in the van for over two hours. Through investigation is was learned that a day care employee had taken several children to the movies, however miscounted the children as they dismounted the van, resulting in the young child being left behind.

Ultimately, all of the children were returned safely to the day care. An arrest was made on the day care employee that left the child unattended and DHS was contacted to conduct an investigation of the day care itself, a day care out of Tulsa. The alert action of Mr. Anderson could have saved this young man’s life.

Saturday afternoon, Owasso Police presented Mr. Anderson with a certificate recognizing his character trait of Alertness . His action furthers the Owasso Police Mission Statement that our police and citizens work in partnership to enforce laws and enhance the quality of life in our community. Outstanding work Mr. Anderson!
