ask the expertQuestion:

My at-home pregnancy test was positive.  What do I do now?  When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?

Answer:

Your pregnancy test is positive!  Congratulations!  It is normal to have tons of questions and concerns at this time.  First, make sure you are on a prenatal vitamin.  (In fact, when a couple is considering having a baby, it is ideal to start taking a prenatal vitamin six months before conception.)  Next, practice healthy living with a well balanced diet.  If you smoke, it would be advisable to quit.  Obviously, avoid alcohol or drug use.

Typically your first prenatal visit should be scheduled around the eighth week of your pregnancy.  However, if you have concerns, call your OB and schedule an appointment sooner.
