Paul-Cook-1450970843Paul E. “Gene” Cook, 89, long time resident of Owasso, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. Paul was born March 3, 1926 in Depew, OK to James and Maggie (Wise) Cook.
Gene met Gerdel Buxton in Ft. Polk, LA while serving in the army. Gene and a fellow solder went into the restaurant where Gerdel was waitressing. She saw the men come in and said “I’ll take the tall one”, Gene and Gerdel married and spent 69 happy years together. Three children were born to this union.
Gene proudly served in the U.S. Army and after his service he went to work for Facet. He worked for 27 years, retired and went to work for American Airlines, where he worked for the next 10 years.
He had many diverse hobbies thru the years. He rode Harley Davidson Cycles all over the country. He loved to water ski and often, since he worked 2nd shift, he would go out to ski before going to work. Gene and Gerdel bowled in many leagues over the years. He also coached youth baseball and he and Gerdel often put up out of town ball teams making sure they were safe and cared for. He also had a fondness for mules and owned several over the years.
Gene was a kind and giving man, always willing to help those down and out. Often he was the “difference” in a child going to bed hungry or fed.


Paul is survived by his wife Gerdel, of the home. One daughter: Debbie Pederson and husband David of Foristell, Mo. 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren 4 great-great- grandchildren and 1 sister, Mary Sell of Wenatchee, WA.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons: David Wayne Cook & Ronald Gene Cook, 6 sisters and 1 brother.


Graveside services are at 1 pm at Fairview Cemetery, Owasso, OK.
