Freda Carol Kimbrough was born January 3, 1938, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Adam and
Anne Cmar Fessel. She died Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 86
years. Freda was reared and educated in Sharon,PA and graduated with the Sharon High School
Class of 1956. She began her nursing studies and graduated from the Canton School of
Nursing in 1959. She married John Howard Kimbrough on November 3, 1959.
Freda first began her professional career as a licensed nurse at Sharon General Hospital
in Sharon, Pennsylvania, then later worked at Baptist Hospital in Middleton, Tennessee, while
her husband attended airframe school. During her husband’s Naval service, Freda worked at
General Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. When her husband was transferred to Detroit,
Michigan, by American Airlines, Freda worked at Wyandotte General Hospital in Taylor,
Michigan.
Freda and her now former husband then moved back to Oklahoma, settling in Skiatook, OK when her husband was
reinstated to Tulsa, OK after his layoff at American Airlines. She then returned to work at Hillcrest Medical Center
in the 3-North and the 3-South units. It was also at this time she worked on getting a degree in Psychology from Rogers State University in
Claremore, Oklahoma. Freda has also worked as an R.N. for the City of Faith and Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa.
Her last nursing position was as Head Nurse with Brookhaven Psychiatric Hospital, when she finally retired.
Freda enjoyed a variety of pastimes, but she especially enjoyed going shopping, time
spent traveling all over with her daughter, Mary, preaching the gospel with her minister friend, Sue Forbes, and book reading.

Grandchildren; Seth Hayes, Chelsea Vanderwall, Brittany Escoe, Shelby Kimbrough,
Connor Kimbrough, and Alexis Waetig.
As well as several great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents (who raised her), her parents, two brothers, Michael Cmar and Tom Fessell, and
her half-sister, Rose Anne Greer.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Mowery Funeral
Service in Owasso, Oklahoma, with Chaplain Carrie Halverson officiating. There will be a one
hour visitation-viewing before the service. Committal service and interment will follow at
Hillside Cemetery in Skiatook, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be
made in Freda’s memory to the Dementia Society of Oklahoma, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown,
